6016 aluminum sheet is a 6xxx series (Al-Mg-Si-Cu series) heat-treatable and wrought aluminum alloy sheet developed by Alcoa. It uses aluminum as the base material, with added magnesium, silicon, and small amounts of copper. It features moderate strength, excellent stamping formability, significant paint hardening effect, good corrosion resistance, and weldability.
Its yield strength in the T4P state is approximately 100-110 MPa, which can be increased to 180-200 MPa after automotive painting. This meets the complex curved surface forming and strength requirements of automotive body panels, and it is mainly used for automotive hoods, doors, trunk lids, and other components.

1. Different heat treatment processes: 6016 t4 aluminum undergoes solution treatment followed by natural aging, while T6 undergoes solution treatment followed by artificial aging.
2. Significant strength differences: T4 has moderate strength, while T6 reaches its peak strength after artificial aging, significantly higher than T4.
6016-T4: Tensile strength 240-270MPa, Yield strength 140-180MPa
6016-T6: Tensile strength 280-320MPa, Yield strength 240-280MPa
3. Different hardness: T4 has lower hardness, while T6 has higher hardness and superior wear resistance.
4. Formability: T4 has good plasticity and is easy to deep draw and bend, while T6 has poorer plasticity and is more difficult to form.
5. Internal stress state: T4 has low internal stress and a low risk of deformation; T6 has relatively higher internal stress. 6. Applicable scenarios: T4 is suitable for workpieces that require secondary forming, and T6 is suitable for finished products that require high strength after forming.
Body panel exteriors: Such as hoods, doors, and trunk lids, are the core application areas for 6016 aluminum sheets, accounting for over 60% of the aluminum used in vehicle bodies.
Roof panel: The excellent mechanical properties and surface quality of 6016 aluminum sheets meet the strength and aesthetic requirements of the roof.
Fenders: Fenders require good impact resistance and formability, which 6016 aluminum sheets provide due to their high elongation and suitable strength.
Bumper beams: 6016 aluminum sheets can replace high-strength steel, reducing weight by 30%-50% while maintaining a certain energy absorption effect, thus improving vehicle safety.
Seat frames: The strength and lightweight characteristics of 6016 aluminum sheets make them an ideal material for seat frames, reducing seat weight while maintaining strength.
Battery trays: In new energy vehicles, 6016 aluminum sheets can be used to manufacture battery trays, ensuring the electrical performance of the battery system and improving driving range.
Motor Housing: The motor housing needs to have good heat dissipation, electrical conductivity, and a certain level of strength; 6016 aluminum sheet meets these requirements.
Roof Rack: Car roof racks need to have a certain load-bearing capacity and a good appearance; the mechanical properties and surface quality of 6016 aluminum sheet meet these requirements.
1. Standards: Prioritize ISO 16289 (automotive sheet metal), ASTM B209 (US standard), and EN 485-2 (European standard), meeting specific automotive industry requirements.
2. Grade/Condition: The contract must specify "6016-T4/T4P (automotive grade)," clearly defining alloy composition tolerances. Purchasing T6 condition is strictly prohibited (poor formability).
3. Required documents: Material certificate, certificate of origin, and declaration of compliance (meeting target market automotive standards).
1. Mechanical properties: T4 condition tensile strength 180-220MPa, elongation ≥28%; after painting, it must reach T6 equivalent strength, with random sampling and re-inspection upon arrival.
2. Surface and sheet shape: Automotive outer panels must be free of scratches and oxidation, Ra≤0.8μm; thickness tolerance ≤±0.05mm (outer panels), flatness ≤2mm/m.
3. Process compatibility: Cupping value ≥ 9.0 mm (to ensure stamping performance), welded joint strength ≥ 90% of the base material (for structural components).
